Lumbini is situated 300 kilometers from Kathmandu and 190 kilometers south of Pokhara. This is a holy place because it is the birthplace of Lord Buddha. This is also known as the pilgrimage destination of the world's millions of Buddhists as well as other researchers and visitors. This is one of the World Heritage site listed by UNESCO.

Lord Buddha, the symbol of peace and the light of Asia was born here in Lumbini in 623 B.C. The main attraction of Lumbini, the Sacred garden is spread over 2.56 sp. km., which possesses all the treasures of the historic area. The Ashokan Pillar, carring an inscription identifying the holy site as the birthplace, is suited in the Secred Garden. Next to the Ashoka Pilleris the Mayadevi Temple, which house a base relief depicting the Nativity Sculpture. In 1996 excavations have discovered a peace of a stone that indicates the exact spot of Loard Buddha. Puskarni - Sacred Pool, where queen Mayadevi, the Lord Buddha's mother took a holy bath bifore the birth, lies to the south of the pillar. As a global initiative promote Lumbini as a center for world peace, many countries have constructed temples, monasteries and stupas in the International Monastic Zone.
